Do you ever get that feeling that you’re not doing enough to draw near to God, or feel like you’ve done something wrong despite not clearly remembering what it is (if anything)? I get that feeling sometimes, even though I pray daily. Sometimes I will think that maybe I should be doing something more, you know? So the question today is, is prayer enough?
The answer: Yes and No.
Yes, in that God hears you and understands that you are trying to have a connection with Him. He appreciates that. You can pray for forgiveness of sin, you can pray for your dreams to come alive, you can pray for others, or even just talk to God about what goes on in your life that particular day.
But at the same time, prayer is not enough for entrance into Heaven. Many believe that just simply believing Jesus Christ is God automatically gives them forgiveness of sin. While it’s true Christ came into this world and died for our sins, and because of our sins, He didn’t do that so people could just do whatever they wanted and gain a definite savior. He did it so those who go through oppression, and sin due to suffering can be saved; namely the saints.
I see it so many times; people go to church, but don’t fully accept God into their lives. The whole point of church is to open you up to God and His ways so that you live a Godly life, not to automatically make you Godly just because you go. You can go to church all you want, you can profess God with your tongue, but if you lie with your hands, you haven’t done yourself any favors.
Yes prayer is good, but actions speak louder than words as they say. Your actions need to be Holy. What is a man who prays, if he then goes and kills or steals. You must learn from your sin, allow it to evolve you; make you a better person.
Saying that, It’s important to remember nobody is perfect. We all make mistakes, do things we regret, which is why it is important to continue praying for forgiveness even if most of your actions are holy. God will forgive if you simply ask.
To wrap up, prayer is enough to draw close to God, however it is not enough to be saved. It helps, but it is not the only deciding factor to where you’re going after this life.
